What is the PSAP?
The PSAP is the Pilates School Approval Programme. It’s an international programme developed by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) to recognize schools that have gone through a rigorous process to show their compliance with Educational Standards. It is also a tool for students to find institutions offering comprehensive Pilates teacher training programmes.
What does this mean for our studio?
It’s confirmation for you our customers, whether you are a studio attendee, a Pilates student teacher or a perspective student teacher, that we are committed to providing you the highest standard of Pilates education and practice.
It is affirmation to you that we are committed to our own education so we can bring you ‘sound research and evidence based practice necessary to ensure that Pilates is effective, efficient and safe.’
This approval is the culmination of many years of hard work to meet the very rigorous standards set out by most recently the PSAP and before that the PMA registry of schools.
At Anne Sexton Pilates Teacher Training School we endeavour to provide a nurturing and learning environment where students can come together and experience the truly life changing practice of Pilates. It is our commitment to pass on the life work of Joseph and Clara Pilates in its true classical form, empowering people to take control of their lives and bodies and to share this knowledge, allowing them to in the words of Joseph Pilates “go about their daily lives with minimum effort and maximum pleasure”.
In our school, we want to inspire excellence by preparing our graduates for the highest standards of professional standards in the practice of Pilates. We integrate scientific research to provide practical applications to the Pilates Method and we teach students to assess each client’s unique needs.
Our commitment is to our students, whom without you we would not be!

Principles of Pilates
It is essential that Teachers understand the philosophy of Pilates and the overall vision of health and well-being that was so very important to Joseph Pilates and essential for us as teachers to grasp so that we can understand and past on his exercises with the depth and context that he intended and that forms the very essence of “Contrology”. It is paramount that we understand and adhere to the 3 guiding principles and the Philosophy of Pilates set out by Joseph Pilates in his 1945 book Return to Life Through Contrology: Whole Body Health, Whole Body Movement and Breath. We must understand the Pilates Movement Principles and they should be present in every Pilates movement that we perform.
- Whole body movement
- Balanced muscle development
Our school brochure will give you a understanding of our school principles, the course content, study requirement and schedule.

Choosing Anne Sexton’s Pilates for teacher trainer was a complete no-brainer for me. I’ve been attending Anne’s classes for years now and I'm still in awe of her dedication and true passion for Pilates. She inspired me to become a teacher myself. The training through ASP was extremely interesting and despite my experience to date of Pilates I was delighted with all the additional information I gathered. Studying the anatomy was fascinating and practicing the teacher role was challenging but very rewarding. Anne broke down each step in very clear and concrete ways that were easy to understand and put in to practice. If you are considering teacher training, I'd strongly recommend you go to ASP. Anne’s support and knowledge is invaluable and you’re sure to have a bit of fun also.Claire
I took a leap of faith and decided to train to be a pilates teacher. I was so nervous but once I found Anne I instantly knew that I had made the right decision, and that I was definitely in safe, knowledgeable hands.Ali Kavanagh
Anne is a fountain of knowledge and her passion for pilates just radiates from her, which translates to her teaching methods and style. Anne is energetic and her enthusiasm for all things pilates is infectious. She is dedicated and caring, and has made me feel comfortable and safe every step of the way.
I have loved every minute of my teacher training so far and cannot wait to perdue it further.
Anne wholeheartedly epitomizes pilates and has become much more than a teacher to me, she has become a mentor and a friend.
I have been interested in health and fitness for most of my adult life, and i wanted to pursue a career in this area. Having previously done reformer pilates and loved the benefits I felt from it I decided that this was the area that I intended to pursue. I started with anatomy training, followed by Mat 1 and 2, then continued with reformer 1 and 2. My experience with Anne Secton Pilates was all extremely positinve. The course is so thorough and Annes expertise about anything to do with pilates is so obvious. Her guidance, support and knowledge is what every person pursuing a career in pilates needs. She goes above and beyond! Can't wait for the next part of my pilates journeyAoife Niall
